LENTEN PRACTICES: PRAYER, FASTING AND ALMSGIVING
In Lent, we have three primary practices that we as Catholics are called to; Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. Prayer is one of the callings that we can use to help bring us to a closer relationship to God. During Lent we should look to add to our pray life, finding more time to spend with the Lord in private reflection. Most of the struggle many of us , myself included, have with our prayer life is that we “do not have time’, but this is the wrong attitude. God wants us to be with Him, and knows that we cannot do it all; he just wants us to come to him on a regular basis. So, prayer does not need to be something to take away from your family or jobs. There are lots of ways where you can spend an extra 10 to 15 minutes with the Lord each day. You could; make a point to attend the Stations of the Cross each week this year. Spend some time before the Eucharistic Lord in the church. Make a point to participate in the reconciliation service and make a good confession, etc. A great way to help keep this commitment is to discuss with your spouse and family. This can be a family plan so you can be accountable to each other. The important thing is to find a pray life that will fit with your family life. So, take some time to talk with your family; how will you bring Christ into your home and into you hearts? (to be continued…) Father Maria Joseph Kodiganti
